Dubai, August 18 — Dubai International Airport (DXB) has broken new ground with the launch of what’s widely being hailed as the world’s first AI-powered immigration corridor. This game-changing system allows travelers to pass through immigration without showing passports or stopping at security counters.
Dubbed the “red carpet” corridor, the initiative was unveiled by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). It enables up to ten passengers to be processed simultaneously, a major step up compared to the traditional one-at-a-time format.
How It Works
- AI pre-verifies traveler identities using stored biometric and digital data before they reach the corridor.
- Any irregularities detected by the system are flagged and redirected for manual scrutiny to maintain security standards.
Impact & Feedback
The system effectively doubles immigration processing capacity, significantly reducing wait times and congestion, especially during peak travel hours. Travellers have responded positively:
- A Syrian visitor mentioned completing immigration “in record time, without stopping at passport counters.”
- A Canadian traveler described the process as “far smoother and more comfortable.”
- A Dubai-based businessman compared it favorably to airports in Singapore, Tokyo, and London.
Why It Matters
This move cements Dubai’s reputation as a global leader in aviation innovation and smart travel design. It aligns with the city’s broader strategic vision of a “seamless, services-led” travel experience and positions DXB as a benchmark for smart international terminals.
