War 2 Opens to Mixed Reviews, Critics Praise Performances but Question Storyline

Mumbai, Aug 18 — The highly anticipated action thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, has received a mixed response from both critics and audiences following its theatrical release this week.

While the film has impressed viewers with its high-octane action sequences and top-tier production values, reviewers say the screenplay lacks depth and struggles to maintain momentum, particularly in the second half.

Several leading publications offered moderate ratings, with Times Now giving War 2 3/5 stars and praising the cast’s chemistry and slick visual style. India Today and Firstpost, however, awarded the film only 2.5/5 and criticised its predictable storyline. Indian Express was more critical, calling the plot “unconvincing” and “over-stretched”.

Social media reactions have been equally divided. While some fans described the film as “entertaining” and “worth watching for the action”, others called it “strictly average” and “a let-down compared to previous YRF Spy Universe films”. An assistant director from Pathaan even labelled it the “weakest instalment” in the franchise.

Regional reviews were slightly more positive, with 123Telugu applauding Hrithik and Jr NTR’s performances and calling the first hour “gripping”. However, even they acknowledged that the second half “loses steam”.

Despite the mixed critical response, War 2 is enjoying a strong box office debut, with industry analysts predicting that the film will cross multiple opening-weekend records.
