The technology, which includes laser-powered devices, high-pressure microjets, and microneedle patches, is gaining momentum in both medical and consumer health sectors. FlowBeams’ BoldJet, for example, uses laser-generated microjets to deliver drugs through the skin with minimal discomfort, signaling a breakthrough in patient care.
Advocates highlight multiple benefits — reduced pain and anxiety, lower risk of needle-stick injuries for healthcare workers, and improved vaccination rates, particularly among children and people with needle phobia. The approach could also streamline self-administration and speed up mass immunization campaigns.
However, widespread adoption still faces hurdles, including regulatory approvals, production costs, and ensuring compatibility with different medications.
With research and manufacturing advancing, experts say painless injections could soon become a healthcare standard — offering a safer, faster, and less intimidating alternative to conventional needles.
