Yes, the same platform that loves to hold summits on “ethical AI,” preach digital responsibility, and lecture creators on copyright, now seems to think consent is optional—at least when it comes to its own backyard.
The modifications, according to several creators, range from automated edits to sudden alterations in how their videos are displayed, all without prior notice or permission. While YouTube frames it as part of its “viewer experience optimization”, critics argue it’s more like Big Tech gaslighting the artists who keep its empire alive.
Ironically, this comes at a time when Google and other tech giants are busy advocating “responsible AI” and “creator respect.” Apparently, responsibility works best as a keynote speech—not so much as an internal policy.
Content creators, who already juggle demonetization nightmares and algorithm roulette, now face a new reality: their videos might not even remain theirs. Some are asking, “If YouTube can just change our content, what’s next—AI-generated apology videos on our behalf?”
As usual, YouTube has defended its position with corporate buzzwords like “enhancement,” “user-centric innovation,” and “community trust.” Because nothing says trust like rewriting someone else’s work behind their back.
And here’s the twist: for once, Meta isn’t standing alone in the “dirty game” of bending rules at creators’ expense. YouTube has finally joined the club. Big Tech solidarity at its finest—united not by ethics, but by the art of quietly rewriting other people’s content.
